In this city, at this moment in history, it’s abundantly clear many of our traditional institutions have failed us--particularly in terms of affordable housing. My next guests are working towards changing the paradigm, from envisioning a new way we utilize land--a far cry from the status quo where big real estate controls most facets of our local government--to the creation of public banks to eliminate predatory and anti-tenant practices many commercial banks undertake in the name of ‘just doing business.’ In fact, they argue, public banking could potentially affect multiple areas that could turn NYC into a true progressive bastion--not just one played on television. Welcome, Andy Morrison, campaigns director at the New Economy Project and Jamie Tyberg, development director at New York Communities for Change.
